Using the Textbox

The textbox in the website editor is very similar to a textbox you would use in any common word processor or email program such as Microsoft Word. You can use it to make text bold or italic, change the colour & size or even create lists, links or pictures.

  1. Making text bold - highlight a portion of the text in the text area you wish to make bold and then click the 'B' in the menu bar (Bold).
  2. Italics - again highlight a portion of text in the textarea and then click 'I' in the menu bar (Italic).
  3. Changing colour - highlight the text in the textarea and then select a colour from the dropdown list.
  4. Making a header - type the header text, hit the enter key then go back and click on the text (you don't need to select it). Choose the header you want from the dropdown in the editor toolbar.
  5. Making text larger/smaller - highlight the relevant text in the textarea and then adjust it using the dropdown size menu (usually defaulted to "2")
  6. Creating a link - you may wish to link to other websites from your own so there is an option in the toolbar to create a link. Highlight some text you want to link from and then press the Link icon in the toolbar (Create Link). A box will pop up with options in it. Enter the address where you wish to link to. The other options just give it an ID and decide whether it should open in a new window or not. You can leave these blank until you are happy with the editor and linking, then you can check out the Advanced Help!
  7. Adding an image - open the Online File Manager from the editor on the home page. Upload your picture (make sure it is not larger than 500px wide or it will make your webpages download slowly and / or mess up your formatting). Once you have uploaded your picture they become available to be added through the Image Gallery in the text editor (Insert Image). When adding a picture it is a good idea to give it an alignment - either left or right - so that the text wraps around it nicely.
Tips for using the editor
  1. When pasting from MS Word - first click on the HTML tab at the bottom of the editor, then do the paste. Afterwards, click on the Design tab of the editor so that you can do your formatting. This will avoid formatting problems caused by hidden MS Word tags.
  2. For a new paragraph - press the ENTER key.
  3. For a new line - press the SHIFT key and the ENTER key at the same time (SHIFT+ENTER).
  4. To align your image & text - set the alignment in the image properties
