Dispensary Counter Assistant

Job description

We are recruiting a part-time Dispensary Counter Assistant to join our friendly GP team for 12 hours per week on a permanent contract within the practice.

You will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of prescription requests for the entitled population, liaising effectively with patients and all relevant personnel.

Duties can include, but are not limited to, the processing of repeat prescriptions in electronic and hard copy format, including online requests. In addition, the post holder will be required to support the multidisciplinary team We are recruiting a part-time Dispensary Counter Assistant to join our friendly GP team for, ensuring the strategic objectives of the organisation are met.

It is important for us to find the right person to fit in with our friendly team. Hours will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am–1pm. We offer free parking and no weekend or Bank Holiday working.

Annual salary will be £3993.60-£7138.56 depending on age and experience

About Us

We are a rural dispensing practice with a main modern purpose-built surgery at Milborne Port Surgery and smaller branch surgery at Templecombe.

We are a very friendly team with an excellent record of high patient satisfaction. We arrange regular staff social events and whole-practice meetings. We have a wide range of staff working at the practice including GPs, nurse practitioners, practice nurses, health coaches, in-house musculoskeletal physiotherapists, a mental health support worker, midwife and clinical pharmacists.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Counter Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

· Process repeats prescription requests received by phone, email, post, slips and the online access system, in accordance with practice protocol

· Produce prescriptions for the GP to sign in an acceptable timeframe

· Ensure all prescription requests are processed and are ready for collection within a 48-hour timeframe

· Generate requests for medication on behalf of the patient for non-repeat items

· Actively encourage patients to reconcile medications to facilitate monthly collections

· Discuss with patients their requirements, encouraging patients to order only what they require

· Act upon compliance issues, liaising with the appropriate clinician

· Ensure medication reviews are arranged by maintaining an accurate recall system

· Effectively liaise with external services, i.e., district nurses, to ensure medicaments are arranged for housebound patients

· Input data into the patients’ healthcare records as necessary

· Deal with all prescription related enquiries in a timely manner

· Record and report adverse effects accurately and appropriately, informing the practice manager immediately

· Data input onto EMIS

· Carry out system searches as requested

· Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

Experience:

Essential

  • Experience in dealing with members of the public

Desirable

  • GCSE English and Maths

Knowledge and Skills - Essential

  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to deal with people who are anxious, upset or unwell
  • Good keyboard skills and familiarity with common IT programmes (e.g. Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle several tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to stay calm in an emergency

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 so all new members of staff must undertake a DBS check. This will be arranged by the practice on successful appointment.

Practice policy is that members of staff cannot be registered as patients so any successful candidate who is a patient of the practice will be required to register with another local GP surgery.
