Serious Conditions Requiring Immediate Treatment by Your Doctor
The first step is to contact the GP surgery. The doctor may decide your condition could be treated more quickly and efficiently by use of emergency ambulance.
Meningitis
Meningitis is a very serious condition which can have an extremely rapid onset. Whilst we would not wish to alarm unduly we feel it is important that you know that the condition is characterised by a combination of some of the following symptoms:
- Headache
- Lethargy
- High Temperature
- Neck Stiffness
- Photophobia (bright lights hurting eyes)
- Rash (sometimes)
Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack)
Usually characterised by severe upper central chest pain. The pain is usually "crushing" in nature - like a weight sifting on the chest. The pain may also be felt in the jaw or down the left arm.
Sudden Shortness of Breath or Difficulty Breathing
Difficulty breathing as seen by rapid or shallow breathing. Change in colour to severe pallor or turning blue.
Collapse
Simple faints are common and recovery is usually rapid and no treatment is required. Many other conditions can cause collapse and urgent attention is required if unconsciousness persists. The above list is only a guide and we are always available to assess and advise on the urgency of individual cases.
The Health Centre is open Monday to Friday from 09:00 – 17:15. To arrange an appointment
