Pneumococcal Vaccine
This vaccination helps to prevent the severe forms of pneumococcal disease, which is the term used to describe a range of illnesses such as pneumonia, septicaemia (blood poisoning) and meningitis (inflammation around the brain).
This is not the same as the influenza vaccine (flu jab) but it can help to prevent some of the dangerous complications that can arise from all strains of flu.
The pneumococcal vaccination is only given once unless you go on to develop a serious condition; if you think you have had this injection before, please let us know and do not come for another one.
This vaccine is now being delivered by NHS Dumfries & Galloway. All eligible patients will be contacted.
