Patient Participation Group

Would you like to be more involved in your GP surgery?

Would you like to help make improvements?

A Patient Participation Group (PPG) plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of healthcare services. Here are the key functions of a PPG:

  • Advisory Role: PPGs act as a “critical friend” to the practice, providing feedback from the patient’s perspective and advising on the responsiveness and quality of services.
  • Patient Engagement: They encourage patients to take greater responsibility for their own health and that of their families.
  • Communication: PPGs help improve communication between the practice and its patients. They work to ensure that patients are well-informed about services and any changes within the practice.
  • Service Development: They influence the development of services by providing patient insights and feedback. This can include contributing to action plans based on patient surveys and complaints.
  • Research and Surveys: PPGs often carry out research into the views of patients, support and publicize patient surveys, and help gather patient feedback.
  • Liaison Role: They liaise with other organisations, both statutory and voluntary, to ensure that the practice is aware of and can respond to broader health and social care issues.

Overall, PPGs aim to create a partnership between patients and their GP practice to improve the quality of care and patient experience.
