ENG1 Medicals

Dr Hunter is an MCA-approved doctor able to carry out ENG1 medicals. A valid ENG1 (Seafarer's) medical certificate is a legal requirement set by the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) that confirms you are fit and well enough to carry out your duties working at sea.

This is a non-NHS service and the fee for this medical is £115.00. If you require additional tests, this may carry an additional fee.  Please discuss this when booking your appointment.

What to bring to your ENG1 medical appointment:

  • A form of photo ID (passport, driving licence, or a discharge book)
  • Your current ENG1 (if applicable)
  • The name, address and contact details of your GP
  • Any correspondence from your GP, if you’ve recently been to hospital
  • A list of any medications you are taking
  • Your glasses/contact lenses (if you wear them)

A standard ENG1 examination will include:

  • Questions on your medical history, drinking habits, etc.
  • Measuring your height and weight
  • A urine sample (to test kidney functionality and blood sugar)
  • Listening to your heart and lungs, testing blood pressure and heart rate
  • Hernia testing (asking you to cough while gently pressing your abdomen)
  • A standard eye test
  • A colour blindness test
  • A hearing test
  • Ear and throat evaluations
  • Teeth/gums inspection

Depending on your weight, the clinician may ask you to undertake a Fit Test at the end of your medical.

Your appointment will last for 30-40 minutes.
