About Us

Highland Local Medical Committee (LMC) represents GPs and practices across Highland, Argyll and Bute. They provide advice that helps the Highland Health Board make informed decisions. They deal with matters that relate to the terms and conditions of service. They also do many other things, including providing professional information to GPs and helping the members find the support that they may need. Highland LMC will represent all of their members, regardless of their contractual status.

Highland LMC is made up of GP representatives who are elected to represent the different geographical areas across the NHS Highland area.  To ensure that the views of all types of doctor working in general practice are represented, the committee also includes sessional doctors and a GP in training.

Highland LMC meets six times a year, following GP sub committee meetings. In between meetings, the Chairman’s Group, comprising of the company directors, meet to discuss items of operational importance. The five Chairman's Group members are currently Dr Andrew Strain (Chair), Dr Paul McMullan (Medical Director),Vacant Position (Vice Chair), Dr Al Miles (5th Person) and Treasurer is currently a vacant position.

Highland LMC is represented nationally on the Scottish General Practitioners' Committee by Dr Al Miles (Deputy Chair) and Dr Paul McMullan (member of the executive). Highland LMC members also attend both Scottish and UK BMA conferences in order to influence policy.

Highland Local Medical Committee is a company limited by guarantee. The directors of the company are the members of the Chairman's Group.
