Appointments

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic there are no pre-bookable appointments to see a doctor.  Patients are asked to phone at 8am if they wish to speak to a doctor.  The receptionist will ask for a brief description of what is wrong and pass to the doctor for a return phone call.  If the doctor thinks the patient should be seen, the patient will be given a time to attend the surgery for an examination.   All patients must wear a face mask when attending the surgery.

We currently operate a mixture of ‘on-the-day’ pre-bookable appointments, telephone consultations, plus pre-bookable late surgeries on a Monday evening.

If you require an on-the-day appointment please telephone the surgery between 8.00am and 9.00am to be given a confirmed appointment time later in the day.  If you can’t manage through the day, please phone to book an appointment for Monday evening.

Telephone consultations are available on request.

Patients should attend all appointments in good time.  If you are late for an appointment the slot will be forfeited.  Should you be unable to attend please inform us as soon as is possible.

Teaching

Partners from the practice are actively involved in teaching students from Glasgow University. You will always be advised on arrival if there will be students involved in any of the surgeries. 

Please let us know if you do not wish to be seen by students -  this will not prejudice your care in any way.

Home Visits

Please note home visits will only be arranged for patients who are seriously ill or genuinely housebound.  In the past unjustified requests have been made resulting in long delays at the surgery for patients.  All home visits are at the discretion of the doctor.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Telephone Consultations

Telephone Consultationsare available on request.  You will be given an approximate time for the doctor to call you.  please ensure that you are able to take the call at the agreed time.

Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

Evidence that you are sick

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.

Statement of Fitness for Work - ’Fit Note'

The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

Late for Appointment

If you are 10 minutes late for your appointment you will not be seen. It is your responsibility to turn up on time.

Each appointment is for only 15 minutes. Turning up 10 minutes late means you have completely missed your appointment

You will need to make another appointment for another day.
