Home Visits

Non urgent home visits should be requested before 10am so that they can be dealt with efficiently and timely during the working day.

Non urgent house calls after 10am will be assessed by the on-call doctor and if appropriate will be arranged for the following day.

Emergencies will be dealt with at any time.

Home Visits are done at the doctors’ discretion based on the medical needs of the patient (as per government guidelines) and are only for patients unable to leave the house due to illness or disability.

Patients get the benefit of better equipment and quicker assessment at the surgery. We would therefore encourage patients to attend the surgery if at all possible.

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

We ask you to follow the current Best Practice Guidelines and dial 999 for

• Chest pain
• Possible stroke - FAST
• Unconsciousness or collapse
• Fits in patients not known to suffer from epilepsy or for fits lasting longer than 10 minutes

This will avoid unnecessary delay in the patient getting the correct immediate treatment.
