Kimmage Family Practice was appointed as a training practice for the North Dublin City GP Training Scheme in July 2021, with Dr Tatsiana Daly as the nominated GP Trainer for the practice. Each year, a doctor who is completing their specialist GP training joins the practice to learn about providing high quality GP care. This is similar to hospital doctors in training who rotate through various posts. All GP Registrars are fully-qualified doctors with at least 3 years hospital experience before coming to the surgery. Many have worked as specialists in other areas of medicine, and bring that expertise to the practice.

Influenza Vaccination 2021/2022 - Please telephone surgery to make your appointment.

The Influenza Vaccine is now available in our practice.  Please contact the practice for an appointment or if you have any queries relating to your eligibility for this vaccine.  The flu vaccine for children will be available from the middle of October 2021.

The seasonal flu vaccine (flu jab) protects against 4 strains of flu virus. These are the strains most likely to be circulating this flu season.

The vaccine is available every year to adults and children at risk of flu and its complications.

You need to get a new vaccine each year. This is because the strains of the flu virus change. This is why it is called seasonal flu. But people commonly call it flu.

You should get your flu vaccine as soon as it's available, to be covered for flu season.  Flu season runs from September to end of April.

At-risk groups

Some people are more at risk of getting complications if they catch flu.

You can get the flu vaccine for free if you're in an at-risk group.  You are in an at-risk group if you:

  • are 65 years of age and over
  • are pregnant
  • have a long-term medical condition – for example, a heart, lung, kidney or neurological disease or cancer
  • have a weak immune system – for example, if you have diabetes or you're having chemotherapy
  • live in a nursing home or other long-term care facility
  • are obese and have a body mass index (BMI) of over 40
  • are a child with a moderate to severe neurodevelopmental disorder such as cerebral palsy
  • were born with Down syndrome

If you are in an at-risk group, you should get the flu vaccine as early into the flu season as you can.

Children aged 2 to 12 years are also recommended to get the flu vaccine.

Some people should get the vaccine to protect themselves, their families and those they care for.

These include those who:

  • work in healthcare
  • are a carer or live with someone who is at risk of flu
  • are in regular contact with pigs, poultry or waterfowl
